uShaka Sea World was the site of the Beach Party and Reception hosted by Obed Mlaba, Mayor of the eThekwini (Durban) Municipality. The uShaka Sea World showcases the diversity of marine life found in the Western Indian Ocean. As you walk through the attached commercial mall leading to the aquarium. The surroundings are landscaped with colorful public artistic displays of the iconography of the Zulu people as well as marine life, and gardens filled with many indigenous plants. The aquarium is located underground. To enter the aquarium visitors have to go through a hole in a wrecked vessel and walk down three floors, past a restored skeleton of a Southern Right Whale, into the aquarium galleries. The theme of the ship wreck relates to the legendary coastline of KwaZulu-Natal where as many as 278 ships wrecked between 1914 and 1945.
