Aukram Burton is a cultural photographer, producer
and multicultural educator. His professional activity as
a photographer, film/video producer and educator has
taken him around the globe. He has received numerous
awards for his work as a photographer, video producer
and educator.
Aukram's work and philosophy is best characterized
by a quote from his words:
"As a media artist working with photography, film,
video and digital media for over three decades, art
has been a bridge that connects me to other cultures
in the world. My work focuses on people, places and
events that I have experienced in my travels throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, North America and the Caribbean. I am committed to promoting multicultural and global education, specializing in the aesthetics of people, places and events in Africa and the African Diaspora. I have crossed the regions of the world in my quest to capture through my lens, the humanity, spirit and dignity of the people I have photographed.

• Producer, 2007 Teaching About Climate Change (a video about the Lincoln Foundation’s Math and Science Summer Institute on U of L campus. The video documents the role UofL honors students’ work with JCPS students in the summer institute to improve their knowledge of science and math while learning about Global Warming.
• Producer, 1990 More Than Meets The Eye (A dramatic videotape designed for diversity training in the City of Boston. Recipient of the 1991 Crystal Award of the National American Scene Awards)

• January 2013, Drumbeats for Justice, Peace and Righteousness: A Tribute to the Photographic work of Aukram Burton, during the Kentucky Center for the Art’s 2013 Keepers of the Dream Community Arts Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Vision
• December 2012, Recipient of the G. Pritchy Smith National Multicultural Educator’s Award, at the twenty-second annual National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) conference in Philadelphia, PA
• September 2010, Molly Leonard Community Service Award, recognized by District 5 Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton for the important role in preserving and recording the Louisville’s social, cultural and civic history through my photography and videography.
• January 2005, Recipient of the 2005 Brown Forman Purchase Award in the 11th Annual African American Juried Art Exhibition at Actors Theatre Louisville.
• February 1998, Regional Artists Project Grant from the Arts and Science Council in Charlotte, NC
• October 1995, Recognized for inspiring display of creativity and talent as co-moderator and presenter at the American Film Festival celebrating African and African-American Film/Video history in Hong Kong, China sponsored by the Hong Kong Arts Center.
• January 1991, Recipient of the1991 Crystal Award of the National American Scene Awards, sponsored by the American Federation of Television, and Radio Artists, as the producer of More Than Meets The Eye. The video is a dramatic illustration of subtle individual behaviors and unwritten institutional policies, which inhibit communication across cultures and impede effective delivery of services.
